Blakesley Academy Award Winners '08

Thanks to everyone who voted on this years awards (and apologies if you didn't get the email - we know some emails didn't make it to inbox's).

We had twelve voters total (five female, and seven male). Emily and I were surprised to see a few landslide victories and a few stalemates.

Best Picture and Best Drama had ties. Harry Potter had a good night, tying for Best Picture and winning best literary adaptation. Juddy brought up a good point about that latter category - is it "good" by being true to the source or by creatively branching out into an interpretive story based on the source?

Enchanted and Jericho were hands down winners, and Fantastic Four was the favorite loser by winning Most Disappointing Movie. No one mourns that movie more than I. It could have been so much more.

I hope Kyle doesn't mind me outing his vote of the Kite Runner. That's now on my list for movies to see.

Thanks for everyone's chiming in on this! See you in '09!

Way to go Jericho. The Green family would be very proud.

Ian and I really liked Ratatouille. Sorry I missed out on the voting...next year for sure.

Cblakes, do you mind reposting or sending us the buttons you can press to make your computer "childproof" so kids can play without causing problems :). Thanks!

Spencer - I agree. Somewhere Johnston is smiling.

Katie - The website is "Alphababy": http://www.kldickey.addr.com/alphababy/

It's great for letting kids get some good interaction while pressing away at the keyboard. Remember this:

The most important thing to know about AlphaBaby is how to exit from it. The standard command-Q is disabled to prevent accidental quitting. Instead, you must use the following key combination:

control-option-command-Q
⌃⌥⌘Q

You forgot a section for "Best Visual Effects"! I am hurt! ;) I would have voted Pirates 1st, Transformers 2nd, and Golden Compass 3rd... haha, how sad is that! I didn't think that the film I worked on should have won.

So much of the "Oscars" are political... that's why Pirates didn't win and Enchanted didn't win... Disney gets the short hand because they aren't so popular! Such is my opinion!

I guess I will have to wait till next year to get in on the vote... until then... watch lots of movies in the theatres and buy (not rent) Dvds! It keeps us little guys employed.
